SAR Technology for Offshore Installations
Offshore oil platforms are found all over the world. They are manned by large crews, and supplies and personnel usually have to be transported by helicopter under virtually all weather conditions. Work on these platforms is dangerous, and that explains why the oil companies that operate these platforms have set up extensive safety and rescue systems. Insurance companies and trade unions also insist on the most stringent safety standards possible. RHOTHETA direction finder systems and emergency receivers have long been considered important components of such safety systems.
The RT-100 emergency receiver triggers an automatic alarm in the event a crew member falls from the platform to initiate organization of recovery activities.
Rescue personnel equipped with either the RT-202 or RT-300 direction finder system are on standby in oil fields at all times. This permits quick, reliable recovery, which is especially important when visibility conditions are poor and currents or rough water can change the location of the victim very quickly.
Helicopters used for SAR activities can also be equipped with an RT-500 SAR direction finder system to support SAR personnel at sea.
These direction finder systems also enable SAR personnel to locate missing helicopters.
