SAR Direction Finders for Yachts and Pleasure Craft
Our professional emergency receivers and direction finder systems allow operators of pleasure craft to prepare for the possibility of a man-overboard situation instead of relying on luck alone. In the event such a situation does occur, they can provide effective assistance to a passenger that has fallen overboard or assist the crew of another vessel. It is especially important that the equipment used be designed to permit simple, intuitive operation.
Since the skipper can also be the victim of an MOB incident, the equipment must be designed so that inexperienced crew members can use it properly even under stress. As a result, handheld devices that require experience and practice are not recommended.
A functioning man overboard system consists of emergency beacons worn on the person of each passenger and crew member and at least one emergency receiver like such as the RT-100. When an emergency beacon is activated by contact with water or the inflation of a life vest, the emergency receiver immediately alarms the crew.
It is not possible to keep a person in the water in sight for very long at night or if visibility is poor. The compact RT-202 MOB direction finder never loses “sight” of person in the water no matter how adverse the visibility and weather conditions. This enables the crew to home in on and recover the victim quickly.
The MOB direction finder system shows the direction of the signal relative to the longitudinal axis of the vessel and operates over the entire 360° azimuth so that the signal is not lost as the vessel maneuvers. The skipper can then steer the vessel in the direction of the source of the signal and bring the crew directly to the person in distress without difficulty even in high sea states.
The universal RT-300 direction finder system also gives yacht owners who do not want to do without the functions of a modern communication direction finder the possibility of using bearings from coastal radio stations to navigate, guide launches or rendezvous with other vessels.
